Why You Should Run A Marathon
Have you ever wondered why anyone would want to run a marathon? 26.2 long miles of blood, sweat, tears, and black toenails. They must be crazy right?
Well, if you must know, there are a few perks to being an endurance runner. Really, more than a few. Besides being a bad-ass, these reasons just might convince you to become a marathon runner yourself.
Better sleep.
Marathon training is one hell of a workout! Your body will demand sleep. You’ll definitely find yourself getting to bed earlier and sleeping a lot more soundly.
Bragging rights.
Once you become a marathon finisher, you’re always a marathon finisher. No one can ever take that title away from you!
You get to buy new running shoes.
You’ll be running a lot so you won’t be able to get away with one or two running outfits. Picking up a few new running clothes and gear is a great way to reward yourself for sticking to your training.
You’ll get a medal and maybe even a free banana.
Whether it’s a medal, a shirt, or food, you’ll get something that’s a recognition of your achievement. This symbol means that you are a fighter, a winner, and can accomplish anything you challenge your mind to do.
New friendships.
This is one of the best benefits of running in our opinion. Joining a running group is a great way to meet new, like-minded people. Joining a running group can also help keep you motivated and motivate others when you have doubt or are going thru a running injury.
You’ll gain confidence.
Once you have crossed the finish line, you will officially be a bad-ass. Your confidence will soar. It’s unavoidable.
You can travel some amazing locations.
Imagine running and looking up at the Eiffel Tower…..wow! Running allows you to travel to some amazing destinations. You may even plan your vacation around a marathon right? 😯
You can indulge a little/a lot after your long runs.
Did we say that making new running buddies was the best part about running a marathon? Must have forgotten this. Running a marathon means burning thousands of calories. You will be rungry. You just ran 26.2 miles, eat.
You can get guilt-free massages.
Marathoners-in-training tend to get tight muscles, so getting regular massages can help you ease muscle tension and stay injury-free. You also need massages to stay injury free so that you can help make dinner too right?
You’ll be distracted.
Get lost in your run… running can be an incredible stress reliever and focusing on a goal such as a marathon can take your mind off your troubles.
People will make cool signs of support for you.
Running a marathon is definitely a sign-worthy endeavor. Your friends will be there to cheer you on and encourage you to keep going. Who doesn’t appreciate that? (Just don’t shout out ” You’re almost there!”….. Please)
