   How to Cope With A Side Stitch

 

       Has this happened to you? You are 10 minutes into your run and you experience a sharp pain in your right upper abdomen? Chances are that you are experiencing a side stitch. A side stitch is an intense stabbing pain under the lower edge of the rib cage that occurs while exercising. It is also referred to as exercise related transient abdominal pain according to wikipedia.

There are many theories about where this pain comes from, the most common being from the diaphragm, and this one I agree with. The diaphragm plays a crucial role while breathing, and breathing properly while you run is one key to avoiding this pain.
